The Croatia international is currently on loan from Real Madrid for the current campaign and he is set to re-join the Spanish club at the end of the season if nothing changes.
The 24-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Chelsea FC team under Maurizio Sarri this season and there has been talk that the Blues may look to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal at the end of the campaign.
Kovacic has now admitted that he is enjoying his life in London and he has suggested that he would be open to staying at the club beyond the end of his current loan spell.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Kovacic said: “I think it was the most important thing I did for now in my career.
“It was a step I wanted a lot, I wanted to come here. I say thank you to my previous club, to Chelsea as well, who wanted me a lot. I am enjoying it and I like it a lot here.
“For now, I am happy here. The city is amazing, the club is one of the best in the world, and my team-mates are great.
“I need to respect my previous club, Real Madrid. I can imagine myself staying here, but I have a contract I need to respect, and that is what I will do.
“For now, my business is to give my best every day.”
Kovacic will be hoping to feature for Chelsea FC when the Blues take on Crystal Palace away from home on Sunday.
The west London side are aiming to finish in the top four and secure Champions League qualification after they ended up fifth in the table under Antonio Conte last term.
They did manage to win the FA Cup though in Conte’s final game in charge back in May.
