Mark Lawrenson has ruled out Tottenham Hotspur masterminding a win against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Spurs will make the trip to Merseyside looking to secure their fourth successive Premier League win to cement their top-four challenge under Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham have eased to victories over Southampton, Leicester City and Burnley to establish a five-point cushion ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table.

Spurs are unbeaten in their last 11 games against Everton but the Merseyside club have only lost one of their last 12 outings at Goodison Park to highlight their impressive home form.

Mauricio Pochettino and the north London side have faced speculation surrounding his future since Jose Mourinho’s dismissal at Manchester United earlier this week.

According to reports in England, Pochettino is the leading contender to become the next permanent Manchester United manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over on an interim basis on Wednesday.

Former Liverpool FC defender Lawrenson is backing Everton to hold Tottenham to a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

“The situation at United obviously has a knock-on effect for Tottenham, with their manager Mauricio Pochettino supposedly among the front runners to get the post permanently in the summer,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“If he is offered the job it will be a big temptation for him and it will be a decision that will keep him up at night. That could affect Spurs’ season too of course.”

Lawrenson added: “Right now, this trip to Merseyside is the only thing Pochettino will be focused on as they look to continue their run of good results since they lost to Arsenal at the start of December.

“Tottenham’s recent record at Goodison Park is decent – they have not lost in any of their past five visits – but Everton’s home form this season is good and I cannot see them being beaten.”

Spurs are looking to finish in the Premier League’s top four for the fourth successive season.

The north London side have beaten Chelsea FC and Manchester United in the current campaign, although Spurs lost to leading duo Liverpool FC and Manchester City.
