Paul Merson reveals his prediction for Liverpool FC v Everton
The Arsenal legend is backing Liverpool FC to beat Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday
Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to beat Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby on Sunday.
The Reds will be looking to bounce back from a frustrating night in the French capital in mid-week after Liverpool FC suffered a 2-1 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
With their prospects of reaching the Champions League last 16 uncertain, Liverpool FC will be hoping to make a statement against Everton at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is unbeaten against Liverpool FC’s derby rivals since the German head coach took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
The Reds have won four times and have drawn twice under the former Borussia Dortmund head coach to capitalise on a transitional period for Everton.
Liverpool FC are unbeaten in their last 13 games in the Premier League to remain with two points of leaders Manchester City ahead of the Merseyside derby.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a 2-0 win against Everton at Anfield on Sunday evening.
“Liverpool were all over the place against PSG, which shows you how good that front three is,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“It’s a good back four at Liverpool now but they were in trouble.
“I expect them to win though, I saw Everton at Chelsea a couple of weeks ago, they were solid but Chelsea were poor and still had three good chances and if they’d taken one they would have won the game.
“I just can’t see Liverpool not having those kind of chances and I think they’ll take them. I don’t think Everton will have a go at Liverpool, but if they defend for 95 minutes they’re not going to keep a clean sheet.”
Liverpool FC have only dropped points in stalemates with Arsenal, Chelsea FC and Manchester City in their pursuit of a first Premier League title.
The Reds collected 33 points from their opening 13 fixtures ahead of the visit of Everton on Sunday evening.
Klopp signed AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita, AS Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker and Stoke attacker Xherdan Shaqiri in the summer transfer window.
