The England international started in a right-back role at Turf Moor after Klopp opted to play Joel Matip alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of his defence.
However, Gomez was replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold midway through the first half with the score at 0-0 as the Liverpool FC defender look to see the ball out of play.
The 21-year-old has made an impressive start to the Premier League season, having started alongside Van Dijk at centre-half throughout much of the campaign.
Liverpool FC had let in a mere five goals in 14 games ahead of their trip to Burnley but the Reds conceded in the 54th minute when defender Jack Cook netted from a corner.
The Reds bounced back thanks to goals from James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Xherdan Shaqiri to seal a 3-1 win and remain within two points of leaders Manchester City.
But Gomez’s injury is a blow to Liverpool FC’s title hopes ahead of games against Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United in the next four weeks.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about the severity of Gomez’s injury, Klopp said: “It was his ankle.
“Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit. We have to see, we don’t know in the moment. We sent him home.”
Gomez moved to Liverpool FC from Charlton in 2015.
