Jurgen Klopp warns Liverpool FC defence about Alisson
The Liverpool FC manager wants Alisson Becker to get more protection from the rest of his Reds team
Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool FC defence that they can’t rely on Alisson Becker to make “20 saves” a game ahead of their clash against Manchester United on Sunday.
The Brazil number one was Liverpool FC’s hero in their 1-0 win over Napoli in their final Champions League group stage fixture at Anfield on Tuesday night.
Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock in the first half to leave Liverpool FC on the brink of a place in the Champions League round of 16.
Alisson made three key saves during the Champions League clash to protect a rare clean sheet for the Reds in European competition this season.
The summer signing earned rave reviews after the Liverpool FC goalkeeper managed to block Arkadiusz Milik’s effort in added time.
Alisson has made a couple of crucial stops in recent weeks, including another last-gasp save in Liverpool FC’s 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor earlier this month.
Speaking at his post-match media conference after Liverpool FC’s 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield, Klopp raved about his goalkeeper but urged his defence to protect their number one more efficiently.
“It was not only one save,” Klopp said. “He had a lot of things to do [on Tuesday night].
“How cool and calm he was with the ball helps us a lot in our build-up situations. When he comes out for crosses he is outstanding. And that save was just incredible.
“But if we don’t defend the whole pitch like we defended, Ali cannot make 20 saves like the last one.
“He did it… incredible, unbelievable. I never saw something similar. But still he needs the other boys around.”
Alisson moved to Liverpool FC in a £67m deal from AS Roma in the 2018 summer transfer window.
The Brazilian goalkeeper has kept 10 clean sheet in 16 games in the Premier League.
