Rio Ferdinand makes claim about Liverpool FC style of play
The Man United legend has been impressed with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool FC team
Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Liverpool FC play with more “tenacity” than any other team in Europe.
The Reds – who are currently top of the Premier League table – managed to battle to a thrilling 1-0 win against Serie A side Napoli at Anfield on Tuesday night to book their place in the Champions League round of 16 draw.
Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock in the 34th minute before Liverpool FC number one Alisson Becker had to make a big save to deny Arkadiusz Milik missed a late chance to equalise.
Liverpool FC managed to reach the Champions League final last term after victories over FC Porto, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Serie A giants AS Roma.
However, the Reds lost 3-1 to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League final, although Loris Karius’ poor performance contributed to the result.
Liverpool FC have made significant improvements to their squad over the past 12 months, notably the additions of Alisson and Virgil van Dijk.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes Liverpool FC are the most tenacious team in Europe at the moment.
“The tenacity with which they play with is unrivalled in Europe at the moment,” Ferdinand told BT Sport after the win over Napoli last week.
“They are aggressive, on the front foot and their attention to detail is something to behold.
“When you’ve got Mo Salah, Mane and Firmino backing it up this are a team you wouldn’t want to come out of the hat [in the Champions League draw] and have to play against.”
The Reds followed up their European win with a 3-1 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in their last two Premier League seasons under Klopp, but the Reds have launched a sustained title challenge since the German took over from Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds have never won the Premier League but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
