Virgil van Dijk sends warning to Liverpool FC about title race
The Liverpool FC defender wants the Reds squad to continue to build momentum at Wolves on Friday night
Virgil van Dijk has warned his Liverpool FC team-mates not to become complacent ahead of their trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.
The Reds secured top spot in the Premier League table last weekend thanks to a resounding 3-1 victory over bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield.
Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and a point ahead of defending champions Manchester City after 17 games.
Van Dijk has made a huge impact at Liverpool FC since his move to Anfield in a £75m deal from Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window.
The world’s most expensive defender has helped the Reds to concede a mere seven goals in the Premier League this term, the division’s best defensive record.
Liverpool FC will take on promoted side Wolves in their next Premier League fixture on Friday night as the Reds look to avoid a potential upset at Molineux Stadium.
Wolves have already beaten Chelsea FC and have drawn 1-1 with Manchester City in front of their home supporters this season, while they earned a 1-1 draw at Manchester United.
And Van Dijk urged the Liverpool FC squad to build on their momentum ahead of a difficult set of fixtures during the festive schedule.
“We are in mid-December and the season is still too long,” Van Dijk is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“We are very happy we’re in the position that we’re in now but that can change in two or three weeks so we won’t get carried away.
“We’ll try to keep on doing what we’re doing and, obviously, stay confident.
“It (Wolves) is another game we want to win. It’s going to be very tough there.
“They are in a great moment but so are we so we will have to prepare well and know their strengths and their weaknesses as well.”
Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
