The Reds will welcome their bitter rivals to Merseyside fresh from three successive Premier League victories to secure top spot in the table.
Liverpool FC are the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League following 13 victories and three draws to make their best-ever start to the season.
Jurgen Klopp has managed to transform the Liverpool FC team into title contenders despite their well-documented defensive troubles in the post-Rafael Benitez era.
The German’s predecessors Brendan Rodgers, Kenny Dalglish and Roy Hodgson all struggled to build a cohesive defensive unit at the Anfield side.
However, Liverpool FC have only conceded six goals in 16 games in the Premier League this term thanks in part to the performances of 2018 signing Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk.
In fact, the Reds will set a top-flight record for the fewest goals conceded in the opening 17 matches of a season if Liverpool FC keep a clean sheet against Manchester United.
Former Liverpool FC captain Souness is backing Klopp’s side to ease to a narrow win against Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday evening.
“Going back to when I was playing, I can only make this comparison,” Souness told Irish radio station Newstalk on Thursday.
“When I played we were the better team and Man United weren’t winning things. We never had an easy game. They pushed us all the way. It’s because of the rivalry.
“I expect the same on Sunday. I fancy Liverpool. Jose doesn’t know his best XI and he’s two and a half years in.”
Liverpool FC signed Van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in January before Alisson moved to the Anfield side in a £67m switch in August.
