The Merseyside outfit have been earning plenty of praise for their strong performances in recent weeks after having overtaken Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
The Reds have been one of the most consistent teams in the Premier League this season and they have been earning lots of admiration for their free-flowing attacking football.
Liverpool FC will be hoping to maintain their place at the top of the table over the hectic festive period as they aim to try and win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
And Milner has insisted that he and his team-mates never got carried away by the thought of winning the league earlier in the season.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Sky Sports, Milner said: “I don’t think anyone set any targets in pre-season that we were desperate to win the league. But if you get through Christmas and you’re there or thereabouts, you have to be considered as challengers.
“There’s a long, long way to go but the ability we have and the position we’re in now is nice to be in.
“It’s a strength of this squad that no-one is getting ahead of themselves and the most important game is the next one coming up.
“We take it one game at a time.”
The Merseyside outfit were 4-0 winners against Newcastle on Wednesday to move seven points clear of defending champions Manchester City back in third place.
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Saturday night when they host Arsenal in the top flight at Anfield.
The Reds reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing to Real Madrid back in May.
