Michael Owen is fully expecting to see Liverpool FC underline their status a serious Premier League title contenders when they take on Newcastle United at Anfield on Boxing Day.

The Reds currently sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League table on Christmas Day after their victory over Wolves on Friday night.

The Merseyside outfit kept their lead at the top after Manchester City slumped to a surprise defeat by Crystal Palace in the top flight over the weekend.

Liverpool FC will be hoping to claim the three points to secure their spot at the top of the table.

And former Liverpool FC striker Owen is fully tipping the Reds to claim all three points against the Magpies on Wednesday.

Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 22 home games with Newcastle United in all competitions and I expect the Reds to keep the points with Anfield sure to be rocking on the back of events at the Etihad on Saturday.

“Another clean sheet for Alisson at Molineux, but once again it was Virgil van Dijk whose star shone the brightest as he added a goal to another outstanding defensive performance.”

Liverpool FC, who are the last remaining unbeaten team in the Premier League this season, are still aiming to win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp since his appointment back in 2015.

The Reds reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing to Real Madrid in the showpiece back in May.
