Mark Lawrenson reveals his prediction for Liverpool FC v Newcastle United
Mark Lawrenson is backing Liverpool FC to claim a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday
Mark Lawrenson is tipping Liverpool FC to ease to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield in the Premier League on Boxing Day.
The Reds are establishing themselves as the team to beat in the Premier League this season following their brilliant start to the new campaign.
Liverpool FC are unbeaten in the Premier League and are currently four points clear at the top of the table as we head into the new year.
The Merseyside outfit will now prepare to host Newcastle United on Merseyside as they aim to keep their position at the top of the table heading into 2019.
And former Reds defender Lawrenson is backing the Merseyside outfit to claim all three points when they welcome the Magpies to Anfield on Wednesday.
Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Rafael Benitez returns to Anfield, and you know how the Newcastle manager is going to set his side up.
“The Magpies will make it difficult for Liverpool but Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is able to change the shape of his team to a 4-2-3-1 when he wants to break stubborn sides down.
“That allows Klopp to get an extra attack-minded midfielder into his team, which is what I can see him doing here.
“Liverpool look very strong at the moment, even when Klopp rotates his side, and he is able to change games from the bench.
“I am going for a home win to keep the Reds clear at the top.”
Liverpool FC are still aiming to win their first major trophy under Jurgen Klopp since his appointment back in October 2015.
The Reds reached the Champions League final last season but ended up losing to Real Madrid in the showpiece back in May.
Liverpool FC will take on title rivals Manchester City at The Etihad on 3 January.
