Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heaped praise on Paul Pogba for his “top, top performance” in Manchester United’s 4-1 win against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils were looking to extend their winning run to three Premier League games after Solskjaer led Manchester United to victories over Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town.

Pogba scored two goals in Manchester United’s 3-1 win against Huddersfield on Boxing Day and the World Cup winner required just five minutes into their clash against Bournemouth.

The World Cup winner doubled the home side’s lead with his second in the 33rd minute before Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford polished off a comprehensive win.

Pogba has now scored four goals and has made three assists in 360 minutes of Premier League football under the interim Manchester United manager after falling out of favour during the final couple of months of Jose Mourinho’s reign.

Speaking at his post-match media conference about Pogba’s performance, Solskjaer said:

“That is a top, top performance from a midfielder because it was all round.

“His work rate, he was dangerous in the box, he won headers, he won tackles and there was no showboating. It was touch, pass and move. He played an efficient game. And Paul knows he is at his best when he plays that game.

“There was one flick maybe that he missed half way through the second half which he could have maybe done better, but there is not much more he could have done.

“We want to see the best out of all the players, we want to see them enjoy themselves and express themselves, but within the framework and how we want the team to play. All of them have really performed up to their top standards.”

Manchester United re-signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park in their first game of 2019 on Wednesday evening.

Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table.
