The Red Devils have made a positive start to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s spell in charge of the Old Trafford outfit to restore the feel-good factor at the 20-time English champions.
Manchester United eased to a 5-1 win against promoted side Cardiff City in Wales in their final Premier League fixture before Christmas Day.
Solskjaer enjoyed a winning return to Old Trafford thanks to a 3-1 victory over Huddersfield Town after goals from Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba.
Manchester United have managed to build some momentum under the retired Norway international to suggest a top-four finish could still be a possibility.
The Red Devils have moved to within six points of fifth-placed Arsenal, who are a further two points adrift of their London rivals Chelsea FC in the hunt for the final Champions League qualification spot.
Former Arsenal star Merson is backing Manchester United to beat Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
“It is funny how the players are all starting to run around now,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Solskjaer must be one of the best managers in the world. The players should be embarrassed. They have been making it look easy of late, and Bournemouth won’t be able to stop them at Old Trafford. It is a great run of fixtures for Solskjaer, and they are on a high at the moment, so will make light work of Bournemouth.
“They need the clean sheet, but don’t look as solid as they once were.”
Manchester United will be hoping to avoid a surprise defeat by Bournemouth, which would mean equalling their club record for most Premier League defeats in a single calendar year.
The Red Devils have scored eight goals in two games under Solskjaer.
