Jose Mourinho is receiving unfair criticism at Manchester United, according to Paul Ince.

The Red Devils edged to an unconvincing 1-0 win over Swiss side Young Boys at Old Trafford on Tuesday night to heap more pressure on Mourinho.

Marouane Fellaini netted a 91st minute winner to secure Manchester United’s place in the Champions League last 16.

Manchester United have produced some turgid football this season as Mourinho’s attack continues to misfire.

Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford have all struggled, leaving Anthony Martial as Mourinho’s only in-form goal-scorer.

Manchester United have conceded 21 times in the Premier League ahead of Saturday’s trip to Southampton to raise questions about their defence.

Sweden international Victor Lindelof is the only Manchester United defender to emerge with any real credit in the current Premier League campaign.

Mourinho has been under pressure throughout most of the Premier League season so far, although he has bought himself time with a big win against Juventus and a credible 2-2 draw at Chelsea FC.

Former Manchester United midfielder Ince believes Mourinho has been subjected to some unfair criticism at Old Trafford this term.

“I feel for Mourinho at the moment because a lot of people are on his back,” Ince told talkSPORT.

“I’m a pundit but I’ve also managed, whereas a lot of pundits have not managed.

“So I can understand where Mourinho is coming from as far as shaking his head at Rashford – I can see that, it’s a manager thing.

“I think he’s getting a lot of stick for no reason, to be honest.”

Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League crown since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 after a 13th title in 25 seasons.

Mourinho achieved their best finish in the post-Ferguson era last term after Manchester United ended up in second place.
