Sky Sports pundit reacts to Man United appointing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Danny Higginbotham reacts to Manchester United's decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their interim manager
Danny Higginbotham has issued his support for the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United’s interim manager.
The Red Devils turned to the former Norway international on Wednesday after Manchester United parted company with Jose Mourinho earlier this week.
The 20-time English champions opted for a change of management after Manchester United lost 3-1 to bitter rivals Liverpool FC at Anfield last weekend.
Mourinho left the Red Devils in sixth place in the Premier League table and 19 points adrift of leaders Liverpool FC after 17 games in the 2018-19 season.
Solskjaer has limited experience managing in the Premier League following a nine-month spell in charge of the Cardiff City before he was sacked in September 2014.
The retired striker has a 55 per cent win record during two spells with Modle and signed a long-term deal with the Norwegian side earlier this month before Manchester United approached the coach.
Former Manchester United defender Higginbotham believes Solskjaer will be a good appointment but the Sky Sports pundit urged the Red Devils to keep working on a permanent successor to Mourinho.
Higginbotham wrote on Twitter: “Good to see Solskjaer at @ManUtd hopefully bring some needed stability whilst necessary work behind the scenes takes place. Key now making sure everything in place to go come July for new manager”
Manchester United will make the trip to Solskjaer’s former club Cardiff in his first game in charge of the Red Devils.
The 20-time English champions are in sixth place in the Premier League table and 11 pints adrift of the top four.
