The France international started on the bench for the third successive Premier League game at Anfield earlier this month as Jose Mourinho continued to overlook his star player.
Pogba didn’t even make it on the pitch in the second half despite Liverpool FC playmaker Xherdan Shaqiri scored two goals after his introduction.
Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool FC resulted in Mourinho’s dismissal last week and the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on an interim basis until the end of the season.
The caretaker manager started the World Cup winner in the middle of the park for their 5-1 win against Cardiff City for the start of a new era at Old Trafford.
Souness, who was considered the best box-to-box midfielder during his peak at Liverpool FC, highlighted what is denying Pogba the chance to become the Premier League’s best midfielder.
“Pogba must be thinking surely I’m better than Marouane Fellaini, surely better than Nemanja Matic?” Souness told Sky Sports. “But if he had a better attitude he’d be better than any midfielder in the Premier League.”
Mourinho stripped Pogba of the Manchester United vice captaincy in September after he awarded the French star the new role in the summer.
Pogba has been regularly linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus over the past couple of months, while FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been touted as potential destinations for the World Cup winner.
Pogba has won the Europa League and the League Cup since his return to Manchester United in 2016.
