The France international has started on the bench in Manchester United’s last three Premier League games to raise questions about his future at the 20-time English champions.
Jose Mourinho opted to start Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Jesse Lingard in midfield ahead of their club record signing for last weekend’s trip to Anfield.
The Portuguese head coach resisted the temptation to turn to Pogba despite Xherdan Shaqiri scored two goals from the bench to give Liverpool FC a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes to go.
While Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday, reports in the Italian media suggested that Pogba had fallen out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s staff member Michael Carrick to ensure a proposed move to Juve remains on the cards.
The 25-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus over the past few months given his successful four-season spell in Turin.
And Savage, who started his professional career at Old Trafford, claimed that Pogba is running out of time at the 20-time English champions.
“I don’t think Paul Pogba has a future at the club,” Savage told BBC Sport.
Savage added: “Man United have been embarrassed [at Anfield] and you’ve got Paul Pogba, who cost £89m, unused on the bench.”
Manchester United signed Pogba in an £89m deal from Serie A champions Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window following Mourinho’s appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor.
Pogba won the World Cup with France in the summer after the versatile midfielder scored in a 4-2 win over Croatia in the summer.
Mourinho appointed Pogba as his vice captain ahead of the current campaign in a show of faith from the Portuguese coach before was stripped of the responsibility after the World Cup winner appeared to criticise his former manager’s tactics in the media in September.
