The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Spanish goalkeeper wants reassurances that the Portuguese coach will still be at the helm next season if he is to commit to a new contract.
De Gea, 28, is widely regarded as one of world football’s top goalkeepers and Manchester United chiefs will be keen to see him sign a new contract as soon as possible.
According to the same story, Manchester United have already taken up their option to extend De Gea’s contract by a further year, meaning that his current deal now expires in 2020.
However, it is also claimed in the same article that talks about a new contract are currently “deadlocked”.
The story also reports that De Gea wants to see that Manchester United will be able to challenge for the top honours again before committing himself to the club.
That would be understandable, given that De Gea has only won one Premier League title with the Red Devils since his arrival at the club back 2011.
As the speculation about his future rumbles on, De Gea will be expecting to start in goal for Manchester United in their Premier League clash at Southampton on Saturday evening.
