Manchester United will consider Massimiliano Allegri as one of the candidates to take over as the club’s new permanent manager at the end of the season, according to reports.

ESPN is reporting that the Red Devils are likely to place the Juventus boss on the shortlist to take over at Old Trafford in the summer following the sacking of Jose Mourinho this month.

The same story says that the Red Devils are prepared for a thorough and extensive search for a new boss over the coming weeks as they look to find Mourinho’s long-term successor at the club.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed as Manchester United’s interim manager until the end of the season and he has won his first two games in charge of the club.

However, despite the claim that Manchester United are interested in Allegri, the same report says that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino remains as the club’s “top choice”.

Allegri has a contract at Juventus until 2020, but according to the same story, he has made it clear that he would be open to a move to the Premier League in the future.

Solskjaer has been earning praise for the impact he has had at Manchester United so far, with the caretaker manager having won his first two games in charge against Cardiff and Huddersfield Town.

Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they take on Bournemouth at Old Trafford in their final game of 2018.
