The Sun is reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to pay up to £40m to make the Tottenham Hotspur manager their next boss.
The same story says that Manchester United chiefs have agreed that Pochettino is the only candidate to take over from Mourinho at the end of the season.
The article also claims that there is a clause in Mourinho’s contract which means it would cost the club less to sack the Portuguese coach if they do not qualify for the Champions League.
As things stand, a top-four finish is looking doubtful for Manchester United. The Red Devils have struggled for form all season and they currently find themselves eighth in the Premier League table and eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea FC.
Their stuttering form has inevitably led to speculation about Mourinho’s future at the club.
According to the same story, Manchester United are likely to face competition from the likes of Real Madrid for Pochettino’s services in the summer, as Tottenham are set to face a “huge battle” to keep hold of their manager.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their home clash against Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils have struggled to find consistent form this season and find themselves 18 points behind leaders Manchester City after the 2-2 draw with Arsenal last week.
