The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils are ready to splash a big-money fee on signing the England international goalkeeper as the uncertainty about De Gea’s future continues.
De Gea’s current contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next summer, although the Red Devils are thought to be set to trigger a one-year extension to that deal.
The same report says that De Gea wants wages of around £350,000 a week to commit his long-term future to Manchester United and turn down a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
The article goes on to claim that Manchester United are “already plotting” how they can lure Pickford away from Goodison Park if De Gea should leave.
The proposed £70m fee to sign Pickford would eclipse the £66.8m Liverpool FC paid AS Roma for Brazilian Alisson in the summer.
Meanwhile, Manchester United will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League when Arsenal travel to Old Trafford on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils drew their second successive Premier League game on Saturday evening when they were held to a 2-2 stalemate at Southampton.
