Jose Mourinho told Man United need this signing to help Romelu Lukaku
Andrei Kanchelskis says Manchester United need a proven winger to help get the best out of Romelu Lukaku
Manchester United need to sign a top winger to get the best out of Romelu Lukaku, according to Red Devils legend Andrei Kanchelskis.
The Red Devils managed to see off competition from his former club Chelsea FC to sign Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Lukaku acquitted himself well in his first season at Old Trafford after the powerful forward scored 27 times in 51 games in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has struggled in his second season at Old Trafford to prompt Jose Mourinho to go as far as dropping his marquee signing to the bench.
Lukaku had only netted six times in 21 games ahead of Sunday’s trip to bitter rivals Liverpool FC, falling behind Marcus Rashford in the pecking order.
Former Manchester United attacker Kanchelsksis believes Lukaku needs to play with a top winger to produce his most clinical form at Old Trafford.
“Man United have bought Lukaku for £90million, but have failed to buy players that will get the best out of him,” Kanchelskis told bWIN.
“Man United need to bring one or two top wingers into the club who will work the opposition’s full backs and get balls into the box for Lukaku to attack.
“Man United need to stop focusing on bringing in a big name and start signing players that want to play for the club. This is a massive few months and they can’t go rushing in to a signing that doesn’t pay off.”
Lukaku netted 25 times in 37 games in his final season at Goodison Park before Everton decided to cash in on their star centre-forward in 2017.
The Belgian forward managed to score 16 goals in 34 Premier League games at Old Trafford last term to highlight his drop in form, despite netting a further 11 goals in cup competitions.
