Jamie Redknapp predicts where Arsenal will finish this season
The Spurs legend believes Arsenal will miss out on a top-four finish this season
Jamie Redknapp has ruled out Arsenal finishing in the Premier League’s top four in Unai Emery’s first season in charge.
The Gunners have endured a difficult couple of weeks in the English top flight after losing ground on fourth-placed Chelsea FC and the prospect of a return to the Champions League following a two-season absence.
Arsenal suffered a 1-0 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium in Saturday’s early kick-off to leave the Gunners with just two victories in their last six outings in the English top flight.
The Gunners bounced back from losses to Manchester City and Chelsea FC in their opening two games to go on a 14-game unbeaten run in the Premier League to inject life into their top-four challenge.
However, Emery’s side have lost to Southampton, Liverpool FC and West Ham in the past six weeks, while dropping points in stalemates with Brighton and Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side managed to draw level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal on Sunday thanks to a 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Former Spurs midfielder Redknapp believes Arsenal will miss out on a top-four finish following their fifth defeat of the Premier League season.
“You can play whatever system you want but I’m not sure this Arsenal squad is good enough to get anywhere near the top four right now,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“I feel sorry for the fans. The manager said they are only going to get loans in, but other clubs at the top are always trying to progress. Arsenal is a huge club and the fans deserve better.
“With the players he’s got, Emery is going to need time and windows to bring players in. He was not left with a great squad.
“I’m not surprised they are struggling away from home because you need good players as well as being organised, and players that can do something different. At the moment the system just doesn’t seem to work.”
Arsenal will take on Chelsea FC in the Premier League next weekend.
