Arsenal eye £3m swoop for top 27-year-old playmaker – report
Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Bayern Munich playmaker James Rodriguez in the January transfer window, according to a report
Arsenal are considering a move to sign Bayern Munich playmaker James Rodriguez in the January transfer window, according to a report in England.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Gunners are interested in a potential move to sign out-of-favour Rodriguez from the Bundesliga champions, who is coming to the end of his two-year loan at Real Madrid.
The same article states that Rodriguez has struggled to hold down a first-team spot in the Bayern team since Niko Kovac took over the reins from Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.
According to the same story, Arsenal could sign Rodriguez for as little as £3m given that Bayern still owe a small fee to Real Madrid for the Colombian international for the rest of his loan deal.
Rodriguez moved to the German champions in a two-year loan deal from La Liga side Real Madrid for a reported £11.5m fee in 2017, with view to a permanent £39.5m switch at the end of the loan spell.
The story says that Bayern would be willing to allow Rodriguez to cut his loan short and complete it in north London if Arsenal pay the remaining fee that the German side owe to Real Madrid.
The 27-year-old has scored 11 times in 50 games in all competitions during his stint at Bayern so far after Rodriguez struggled to justify his lavish transfer fee at Real Madrid.
Rodriguez could be a ready-made replacement for Mesut Ozil given the uncertainty surrounding the German’s future at the north London side.
