Unai Emery delivers Arsenal January transfer update
The Arsenal manager reveals that the Gunners are still working on deals to improve their squad this month
Unai Emery insists Arsenal are still working on one or two signings despite reports that Denis Suarez’s proposed move to The Emirates has collapsed.
The Gunners have been linked with a move to sign the out-of-favour FC Barcelona midfielder throughout the January transfer window.
Emery worked with Suarez during the Spain international’s season-long loan move to Sevilla in 2014-15.
However, reports in the British media this week suggested that Arsenal were set to miss out on a deal to sign the 25-year-old.
The Telegraph, though, is reporting that a deal could still be on the cards before the close of the current transfer window next month.
And Emery, whose side will take on Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round at The Emirates on Friday night, gave an update on the north London side’s attempts to strengthen their squad.
“We only want to sign one or two players who can really help us with good performances,” Emery is quoted as saying by The Telegraph.
“The club is working. They know our intentions, our possibilities for signing players that can help us.”
Arsenal bolstered their top-four prospects last weekend thanks to a 2-0 win against Chelsea FC at The Emirates.
The Gunners are in fifth place and three points adrift of Maurizio Sarri’s men, who occupy the final Champions League qualification spot.
Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window after Emery took over the reins from Arsene Wenger.
However, the Gunners manager is still transforming the Arsenal side after a mixed first season in charge.
