Arsenal may have to sell Mesut Ozil to fund move for Belgian attacker – report
Arsenal can't afford Difang Yifang attacker Yannick Carrasco given the forward's lavish €11m-a-year salary, according to a report
Arsenal will need to offload Mesut Ozil to generate the funds to sign Belgium and Dalian Yifang attacker Yannick Carrasco, according to a report in Italy.
Italian media outlet Tuttomercato, as quoted by Fox Sports Asia, is reporting that Arsenal will struggle to afford Carrasco’s lavish wages of €11m (£9.75m) a year.
Unsurprisingly, the former Atletico Madrid winger is earning a big sum given Dalian Yifang managed to lure the Belgium international to the Chinese Super League despite being in the prime of his career.
The same article states that Arsenal are struggling to offload their best-paid player Ozil, with Inter Milan and Juventus reluctant to meet the German playmaker’s salary of €10m (£8.87m) a year.
According to the same story, the north London outfit are facing competition from their bitter Premier League rivals Manchester United for the 25-year-old’s signature in the January transfer window.
Carrasco has scored seven times and has made five assists in 25 games for Dalian Yifang during his first full season at the Chinese club.
The Belgian forward was previously considered one of Europe’s most-exciting prospects after Carrasco made giant strides forward under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.
The pacy winger netted 23 times in 123 games in all competitions during three seasons at los Rojiblancos.
