Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to return to winning ways with a resounding 3-1 win at Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 loss to defending Premier League champions Manchester City in their last top-flight outing.

The Merseyside outfit lost for the first time in the Premier League this season after goals from Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane sealed a narrow win.

Liverpool FC crashed out of the FA Cup last weekend after Wolverhampton Wanderers were 2-1 winners against the league leaders to condemn the Reds to successive losses.

Klopp’s side were 1-0 winners against Brighton earlier this season after African player of the year Mohamed Salah scored a winner at Anfield.

Liverpool FC were 5-1 winners against the Seagulls in their Premier League meeting at the Amex Stadium last year, with Roberto Firmino on the score sheet twice.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a 3-1 win against Brighton to help the Reds get their title challenge back on track.

“This is the biggest game of the season for Liverpool, even bigger than the Manchester City game,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“They have to win this game, if they draw it will just be a disaster. Going out of the FA Cup was a blessing in disguise. They put all of their eggs in one basket, which they should, but that will count for nothing if they don’t win at Brighton.”

Merson added: “They could have been 10 points clear a week ago, if they fail to win at the Amex and City win, their lead could be down to two points. Psychologically that would be it.

“They have to win this game or they will not win the league. This is a really hard game for Liverpool, especially what they have been through the last few weeks, but I reckon they will hold their nerve.”

Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table and four points clear of second-placed Manchester City in the title race.

The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but have finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
