Olivier Giroud has welcomed Chelsea FC’s signing of Gonzalo Higuain this month.

The Argentina striker signed for the Blues on a season-long loan deal from Juventus last week as Maurizio Sarri moved quickly to bolster his attacking options at Stamford Bridge.

Higuain could be set to make his debut for Chelsea FC when the Blues host Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday night at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old will be competition with Giroud for a spot up front in the Chelsea FC team following the Blues well-documented struggles in the final third this season under Sarri.

But despite the increase in competition, Giroud has welcomed the signing of Higuain and says the Argentina forward can be a vital part of their season.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Giroud said: “I think it’s good for the club to have different top strikers.

“It’s a benefit for the team and competition is always good for strikers, so we will try to step up together to help the team reach our target.”

Chelsea FC head into their clash with Sheffield Wednesday fresh from having booked their place in the League Cup final thanks to their penalty shootout win over Tottenham on Thursday.

The Blues will take on Manchester City in the League Cup final on 24 February as they look to win their first trophy under Sarri.
