Pundit urges Chelsea FC to stick with Maurizio Sarri
Chelsea FC legend Pat Nevin believes Maurizio Sarri deserves time at Stamford Bridge
Pat Nevin has urged Chelsea FC to persist with Maurizio Sarri despite a difficult run of results.
Chelsea FC suffered a 2-0 loss to their bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last weekend after goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny.
The Blues struggled to build any momentum in the London derby clash to allow Arsenal to ease to a comfortable win and bolster their top-four prospects.
Sarri’s men are in fourth place in the Premier League table and three points ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United in the race to secure a Champions League spot.
The Chelsea FC manager admitted that he has struggled to motivate some of his players following their comprehensive loss at Arsenal.
Sarri is coming under increasing pressure at the west London side despite his appointment in the summer as Antonio Conte’s replacement.
His mounting problems eased somewhat on Thursday night when Chelsea FC reversed a first-leg deficit to beat Tottenham on penalties in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Former Chelsea FC winger Nevin is adamant that the Blues need to persevere with Sarri despite a challenging start to his reign.
“In the past I have always thought [about getting] a manager that we can stick by if things go badly for six to 12 months,” Nevin told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“That may be the case with Sarri now. I hope they do stick by Sarri now for a while.
“He’s hardly had a chance. And by the way, they’re still in fourth.”
The Italian head coach remained unbeaten in the Premier League until late November when Chelsea FC suffered a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
The Blues have gone on to lose to Leicester City, Wolves and Arsenal to lose ground on the top three and become embroiled in a battle for fourth spot.
