Maurizio Sarri raves about promising English teenager at Chelsea FC
The Chelsea FC manager talk up promising England teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi
Maurizio Sarri has admitted that promising English teenager Callum Hudson-Odoi has the potential to become a great player at Chelsea FC.
Hudson-Odoi was named in Chelsea FC’s starting line up for Saturday’s 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round.
The 18-year-old made his Premier League debut on Boxing Day when he came off the bench in their 2-1 win over London rivals Watford at Vicarage Road.
Hudson-Odoi has also made four appearances in the Europa League this season as Sarri continues to give the teenager a chance to gain valuable first-team experience in Europe’s second tier competition.
The London-born forward featured in both of their fixtures against BATE Borisov in the Europa League group stage before Hudson-Odoi scored his first Chelsea FC goal in a 4-0 win over PAOK in November.
Hudson-Odoi, who was handed the number 20 shirt in the Chelsea FC squad, is well established in the England youth set up but is yet to make an appearance for the Under-21 side.
The Sun reported on Wednesday that Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich had made a £30m bid to sign the exciting English teenager in the January transfer window.
Asked about Hudson-Odoi ahead of Chelsea FC’s clash against Southampton in the Premier League in their first game of 2019, Sarri said:
“I think that Callum Hudson-Odoi is a very good player.
“The potential is for him becoming a great player and now he has to improve. With the ball he is a very good player, he has to improve with movement without the ball.
“As a winger he has to improve in the defensive phase but he has the potential to become a very important player.”
Chelsea FC signed United States international Christian Pulisic in a £58m deal from Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday to mark their first signing of the January transfer window.
