Ex-midfielder warns of ‘worrying times’ for Chelsea FC after Arsenal defeat
Jermaine Jenas says Chelsea FC must address their problems after their 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday
Jermaine Jenas claimed that it is “worrying times” for Chelsea FC after the Blues slipped to a disappointing 2-0 loss to Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday night.
Alexandre Lacazette fired the home side into the lead in the 14th minute with a brilliant close-range finish into the roof of the net after expertly controlling Hector Bellerin’s pass.
Laurent Koscielny then made it 2-0 when he shouldered in Sokratis Papastathopoulos’s mishit shot in the 39th minute.
The win was an important one for Arsenal in the race for the top four, as it left them just three points behind Chelsea FC, who have only won one of their last three games in the top flight.
And former Newcastle United midfielder Jenas feels that Maurizio Sarri has failed to change his tactics despite problems having presented themselves in previous games.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Jenas said: “Arsenal were well-organised and they outran and outworked Chelsea all over the pitch I thought.
“From Chelsea’s point of view, it’s worrying times. There’s a distinct pattern that’s developed into Chelsea’s game and nothing has changed.
“I watched them against Spurs [in the League Cup] and they didn’t look like scoring. It was the same again today.
“The fact that manager’s not prepared to change anything at the top end of the pitch… there is a stubbornness to what he [Sarri] is doing and I don’t think it’s helping the team.”
Chelsea FC will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final, having lost the first leg 1-0.
The Blues will then host Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday next weekend.
