The Spaniard was pictured in tears as he left the pitch after Chelsea FC’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the third round of the FA Cup.
Fabregas has been strongly linked with a move away from Chelsea FC this month and his emotional reaction to leaving the pitch on Saturday seemed to suggest that he may well be on his way out of the club.
And Lineker was quick to pay tribute to the former Arsenal captain after the emotional scenes at Stamford Bridge for the 31-year-old midfielder.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Emotional scenes at Stamford Bridge as @cesc4official walks off the field in tears in what is clearly his last game in English football.
“He’s been a credit to our game. Wonderful footballer and a top bloke. Wish him well. 👏👏.”
Fabregas has won two Premier League trophies with Chelsea FC since joining the club from FC Barcelona in the summer of 2014.
However, he has found his playing time at Stamford Bridge to be limited this season under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
Indeed, Fabregas has only made one Premier League start for Chelsea FC so far this season and has only played 561 minutes of first team football for Sarri’s side.
