Maurizio Sarri singled out Eden Hazard for special praise after the playmaker helped Chelsea FC to beat Tottenham on penalties and reach the League Cup final.

Hazard was in brilliant form for the west London club on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge as he scored one goal and was named man of the match.

Tottenham held the Blues to a 2-2 draw on aggregate to force the tie to penalties, and the home side triumphed in west London to set up a League Cup final meeting with Manchester City at Wembley on 24 February.

Hazard has been in great form for Chelsea FC so far this season, scoring 13 goals and making 10 assists in all competitions for Sarri’s men.

And the Chelsea FC manager was full of praise for the 28-year-old playmaker after the victory.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports after the game, Sarri said: “I think Hazard was having fun. I had fun for 65 minutes watching Hazard.

“He was a little bit tired in the last part of the match, he ran a lot, but he played a fantastic, wonderful match.

“The position is not a big problem, this match we played with another mind, motivation and determination. His qualities are more important than the position.”

Chelsea FC headed into the game on the back of their 2-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend, and Sarri was pleased with the response.

He continued: “The last three or four matches we had a problem, the problem was the motivation and the players stopped to have fun on the pitch.

“Now with that performance and result we can find enthusiasm again. We need to continue this motivation. That was very important.

“The players reacted really well tonight. I was very happy with the performance before the penalties. If there had been a different outcome I would have still been happy. We deserved to win this game without penalties.”

Chelsea FC will return to action on Sunday evening when they take on Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge.

Gonzalo Higuain could be set to make his debut in that game after he completed his loan move from Juventus earlier this week.
