Chelsea FC director says 31-year-old was club’s ‘number one’ transfer target
Chelsea FC director Marina Granovskaia reflects on the Blues' deal to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan from Juventus
Chelsea FC director Marina Granovskaia has revealed her delight at seeing the Blues sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan, claiming that the striker was the club’s “number one” transfer target this month.
The 31-year-old striker completed his much-anticipated move to Stamford Bridge on loan from Juventus until the end of the season on Wednesday night as the Blues bolstered their attacking options.
Higuain has now been reunited with his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as he looks to try and help Chelsea FC enjoy a strong end to the campaign.
The deal was made complicated by the fact that Higuain had been on loan to AC Milan this season, but he is now a Chelsea FC player until the end of the season.
And Blues chief Granovskaia has admitted her delight at seeing the west London side finally complete a deal to land Higuain from Juventus.
Speaking in an interview quoted by Chelsea FC’s website, Granovskaia said: “Gonzalo was our number one target in this transfer window and arrives with a proven record at the highest level.
“He has previously worked with Maurizio to great effect and is familiar with how the coach likes to play.
“This was not an easy deal for us to do because of the numerous parties involved, but we are delighted we were able to make it happen and we look forward to seeing the impact Gonzalo will make for us in the second half of the season.”
Higuain will be hoping to feature for Chelsea FC when the Blues host Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
The west London side are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table as they look to try and break back into the top four before the season is out.
