Jamie Redknapp reacts to N’Golo Kante’s goal in Chelsea FC’s win over Tottenham
While the Sky Sports pundit praised N'Golo Kante's finish, Jamie Redknapp was impressed with Tottenham's defending
Jamie Redknapp praised N’Golo Kante for a good finish but slammed Tottenham Hotspur’s defending after Chelsea FC booked their place in the League Cup final after penalties on Thursday night.
The France international started the semi-final clash with a point to prove after Chelsea FC were soundly beaten 2-0 at Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.
Chelsea FC manager Maurizio Sarri has used Kante in a more advanced role in the Blues team this season to accommodate summer signing Jorginho.
And Kante scored his fourth goal of the season after the World Cup winner’s strike was deflected past Tottenham number two Paulo Gazzaniga.
The French midfielder was afforded a large amount of space after the ball fell to Kante on the edge of Tottenham’s area following a Chelsea FC corner.
Eden Hazard doubled the home side’s lead to turn the semi-final tie on its head after Harry Kane’s goal in the first leg at Wembley.
However, Fernando Llorente’s second-half goal forced penalties and David Luiz dispatched the winning spot-kick after Eric Dier and Lucas Moura both missed their efforts.
Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp praised Kante’s goal in the League Cup clash.
“It is a nice strike by N’Golo Kante,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“He hits it really well.”
Tottenham saw a three-game winning run against Chelsea FC come to an end following their League Cup defeat.
And Redknapp was critical of Tottenham’s defending for Kante’s opening goal.
“Tottenham made a real mess of it,” Redknapp added.
“There are five Chelsea players and eight Tottenham defenders. There was so much space. He had a lot of time. It’s poor defending from Tottenham’s point of view.”
Tottenham are in third place in the Premier League table and nine points ahead of Chelsea FC.
