Martin Keown believes Chelsea FC would be foolish to sell Callum Hudson-Odoi to Bayern Munich, especially with Eden Hazard’s long-term future up in the air.

The Blues teenager has emerged as a surprise target for the Bundesliga champions in the January transfer window despite his lack of first-team experience.

Hudson-Odoi has only got 13 senior appearances under his belt but this hasn’t prevented talk of Bayern launching a £35m bid to sign the 18-year-old.

The Chelsea FC starlet has found his first-team opportunities limited in Maurizio Sarri’s debut season at Stamford Bridge, but the Italian coach has still handed Hudson-Odoi a respectable nine appearances.

Hazard has continued to be linked with a potential move to Champions League holders Real Madrid at the end of the current season given the Belgian forward has less than 18 months left to run on his current deal.

Asked during his weekly question and answer session on the Daily Mail whether Chelsea FC should sell Hudson-Odoi to Bayern, Keown responded:

“I find it staggering that Chelsea are considering selling him to Bayern Munich.

“I wrote on Monday that they should be viewing him as part of their long-term future.

“What makes talk of his departure even more surprising is that Eden Hazard is expected to leave at the end of the season.

“If you are going to lose your best player then why would you jettison a ready-made replacement?”

Chelsea FC have signed United States international Christian Pulisic in the January transfer window but the £58m signing has been loaned back to Borussia Dortmund for the remainder of the season.

The Blues will take on Keown’s former club Arsenal in their next Premier League fixture at The Emirates on Saturday evening.
