AC Milan boss replies when asked about reported Chelsea FC target leaving
Gennaro Gattuso is adamant that AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain hasn't asked to leave the San Siro outfit
Gennaro Gattuso has claimed that Gonzalo Higuain hasn’t asked the AC Milan manager to sanction his departure at the San Siro outfit amid reported interest from Chelsea FC.
The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea FC since Maurizio Sarri took over the reins at the west London side from Antonio Conte in the summer.
The speculation has only intensified over the past couple of weeks as Sarri look to sign a striker to replace misfiring Alvaro Morata in the Chelsea FC team.
Higuain has endured his own struggles during his loan spell at AC Milan following a disappointing return of six goals in 15 games in Serie A this term.
The 31-year-old was shipped out of Juventus in the summer after the Serie A champions signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus in a club-record deal.
However, AC Milan manager Gattuso is adamant that Higuain hasn’t asked to leave the San Siro outfit despite the recent transfer speculation.
“Gonzalo is always smiling and joking with his team-mates,” Gattuso is quoted as saying by London Evening Standard.
“Probably something changed after the penalty missed and the red card against Juventus.
“I want to stress the fact that Gonzalo has never come to me to tell me he wants to leave.”
Higuain produced some of his best football of his career during the 2015-16 season under Sarri at Napoli.
The Argentina international scored 36 times in 35 games in Serie A to thrive in Sarri’s system at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea FC will face their London rivals Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday evening with a place in the top four on the line.
