Reporter unveils ‘stumbling block’ in Chelsea FC’s Gonzalo Higuain deal
Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth reaveals Chelsea FC director of football Marina Granovskaia is unsure about signing Gonzalo Higuain
Maurizio Sarri will need to convince Chelsea FC director of football Marina Granovskaia that Gonzalo Higuain is the right signing to bolster their attack in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Blues have been regularly linked with a move to sign the Argentina international since former Napoli manager Sarri took over the reins from Antonio Conte in the summer.
Higuain’s proposed move to Chelsea FC failed to materialise in the summer transfer window but the 31-year-old striker ended up completing a loan move to AC Milan.
The former Real Madrid forward has struggled to impress for the San Siro outfit after a disappointing return of six goals in 15 games in the Italian top flight this term.
Sarri’s strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have underwhelmed in the Italian coach’s team this season when Conte’s replacement has given the attacking duo the chance to impress.
Reports in the English media suggest that Chelsea FC have been in talks with the seven-time European champions about a deal to sign Higuain, who is on loan at AC Milan from Juventus.
However, Sky Sports News reporter Sheth lifted the lid on the reservations of Granovskaia, which is holding up a potential deal.
“Higuain has told AC Milan that he wants to leave,” Sheth told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast.
“We know Sarri wants to sign Higuain. Higuain had his best season when he played under Sarri, scoring 36 goals. On the face of it, this should be a goer. Everyone wants the deal to happen.
“There is one stumbling block and her name is – Marina Granovskaia – she has reservations about Higuain’s age and sell on value.”
Sheth added: “The deal has moved closer but Sarri will have to convince Marina Granovskaia that it is a good deal. That’s the way I see it at the moment.”
Chelsea FC have scored 40 goals in 22 games in the Premier League this term, with Eden Hazard scoring 10 times in the top flight.
