Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting that Higuain could be set for a reunion with Maurizio Sarri, who has previously worked with the Argentina striker at Napoli.
Higuain is currently on loan to AC Milan from Juventus, but the Rossoneri are reportedly ready and willing to let the 31-year-old end his spell early as they are struggling to pay his hefty wages.
The same story says that Milan are not sure about paying the €40m option to sign Higuain on a permanent basis in the summer.
However, the article claims that Chelsea FC are willing to pay both as they look to bring the forward to Stamford Bridge this month.
The striker has been in decent form for AC Milan so far this season, scoring six goals and making one assist in 15 Serie A appearances.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, slumped to a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final clash at Wembley on Tuesday night.
The Blues will aim to return to winning ways when they take on Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
