Michael Owen states his prediction for Chelsea FC v Sheffield Wednesday
The Liverpool FC legend is tipping Chelsea FC to ease to victory over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday
Michael Owen is tipping Chelsea FC to ease past a resilient Sheffield Wednesday side in the FA Cup fourth round on Sunday.
The FA Cup holders will welcome Steve Bruce’s side to Stamford Bridge fresh from their heroics in the Carabao Cup in midweek.
Chelsea FC booked their place in the League Cup final thanks to a penalty shootout victory over their bitter London rivals Tottenham.
Maurizio Sarri’s men will now face defending Premier League champions Manchester City in the Carabao Cup showpiece at Wembley on 24 February.
Sheffield Wednesday appointed former Manchester United defender Bruce as their new manager earlier this month.
The Owls are in 13th place in the Championship table after a difficult 2018-19 campaign.
Former Liverpool FC striker Owen is confident that Chelsea FC will secure their place in the fifth-round draw without any notable problems.
“Holders Chelsea have a good record against non-Premier League ties qualifying from 47 of their last 49 ties and I expect Maurizio Sarri’s side to beat a Wednesday side who will be cheered on by 6,000 Owls supporters,” Owen told BetVictor.
“Steve Bruce will have to do without central defender Michael Hector who is ineligible as Chelsea is his parent club.
“The Owls don’t score many goals – just seven in their last nine games – but they are solid defensively and they look sure to give a good account of themselves at the Bridge.”
Goals from Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante overturned Harry Kane’s first-leg goal to put Chelsea FC in control of the League Cup semi-final tie against Spurs.
However, Fernando Llorente’s second-half goal forced penalties and Chelsea FC progressed after Eric Dier and Lucas Moura missed their spot-kick attempts.
Chelsea FC got their hands on the FA Cup trophy in Antonio Conte’s final season in charge after a 1-0 win against Manchester United in the Wembley showpiece.
