Jurgen Klopp is not yet sure whether Trent Alexander-Arnold will be in contention to play for Liverpool FC when they take on Leicester City on Wednesday night.

The full-back has been out of action since 12 January after suffering a knee ligament problem during the victory over Brighton and Hove Albion and he has been working on his recovery since then.

The 20-year-old will be hoping to return to action as quickly as possible as Liverpool FC look to continue their push towards challenging for the Premier League title this season.

Alexander-Arnold has been a regular fixture in the Liverpool FC team this season and he has scored one goal and made three assists in 17 Premier League appearances.

Klopp has now confirmed that the full-back is making good progress, but says it is too early to judge whether he will be ready for Wednesday’s game or not.

Klopp told Liverpool FC’s website: “He is better, much better, but we have to see. It needs to be stable – and in the moment it is stable and it’s about the pain.

“Everyone knows how desperate Trent is to play; he can ignore pretty much everything. That he played that game at Brighton was sensational, to be honest. It’s unbelievable.

“The same for Gini, who got a little injury early and it was very painful. Adrenaline is obviously really hard stuff and gives you the opportunity to grow a bit in the game, so they did.

“It will not be long [for Trent], but is he ready for Leicester? I don’t know, we will find out. Then it’s West Ham and then Bournemouth. After that he will be 100 per cent [back] but until then, we have to see.”

Klopp also delivered an update on Georginio Wijnaldum, who has also been struggling with a minor knee problem in recent days.

He continued: “Gini is good, better. The plan is that he will have one session today and then we have to see how he reacts on that. Hopefully we can build from that point.”

Liverpool FC are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table as they look to try and win their first major trophy under Klopp.
