Graeme Souness: What makes Liverpool FC dangerous in title race

The Liverpool FC legend says Jurgen Klopp's side are in a strong position in the Premier League title race

Graeme Souness believes Liverpool FC’s ability to win games when not playing well makes Jurgen Klopp’s side a dangerous proposition in the title race.

The Reds came from behind to secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield last weekend to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Klopp’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all managed to get on the score-sheet in the seven-goal thriller.

However, Liverpool FC did show some defensive frailty for one of the first times this season after conceding three goals.

Klopp’s side have been in control of the majority of their opening 24 games in the title race but Saturday’s result highlighted their ability to win even when the Reds aren’t playing well.

Liverpool FC have an extended break to prepare for their home clash against Leicester City next Wednesday after their FA Cup third-round exit earlier this month.

Former Liverpool FC captain Souness believes the Reds are in a great position in the title race but warned that Manchester City are within striking distance.

“We’re in a great position,” Souness told Liverpool FC’s website.

“It’s not theirs to lose, there’s a long way to go and City are a really good team. Just keep your nerve and treat each game as the next one is the most important one, don’t look too far ahead.

“If you can, keep that four-point advantage and it’s first to blink really, in the long-term.

“As well as being a great watch, Liverpool are a pretty pragmatic team as well; they are a pretty strong outfit when they’re not dominant, they’re still capable of winning games. That makes them a dangerous team. It makes you league champions when you can win games without being at your best.”

Klopp is looking to become the first Liverpool FC manager to deliver the Premier League crown after a 29-year title drought.

The Reds are four points clear of defending Premier League champions Manchester City at the top of the table.
