Ian Wright has warned Liverpool FC that they will need to hold their nerve in the title race if Jurgen Klopp is going to steer the Reds to the Premier League crown.

Liverpool FC are sitting at the top of the Premier League table following an impressive return of 57 points from 24 games in the current campaign.

The Reds are sitting four points clear of defending champions Manchester City in the title race after the Citizens lost to Crystal Palace and Leicester City in December.

Liverpool FC have never won the Premier League title despite coming close in 2002 under Gerard Houllier and even closer under Rafael Benitez in 2009.

Perhaps the Merseyside outfit’s best chance of finally getting their hands on the Premier League title came in 2014 when Brendan Rodgers’ came to within three games of an elusive top-flight crown.

However, Liverpool FC finished the 2013-14 season with four points from their last three games to narrowly miss out to Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City side.

The suggestion was that the 18-time English champions choked after a 2-0 loss to Chelsea FC at Anfield.

Former Arsenal striker Wright is excited to see whether Klopp’s squad can deal with the title pressure in the remaining months of the season.

“Liverpool – I tipped them [to win the title] at the start and they’ve given me a run for my money,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday night.

“Liverpool have improved. What will be interesting about it now is how Liverpool – the players and the manager – deal with the pressure after not winning the title for 29 years.”

Liverpool FC haven’t made any signings in the January transfer window so far, although the Reds sold Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth in a £19m deal.
