Virgil van Dijk has insisted that he doesn’t need a rest despite the Liverpool FC centre-half being ever-present in Jurgen Klopp’s team this season.

The Netherlands international has been a key member of the Liverpool FC side over the past 12 months or so since his record move to the Anfield outfit from Southampton in the 2018 January transfer window.

Van Dijk became the world’s most expensive defender when the Dutch centre-half completed a £75m switch to Liverpool FC to become the club’s record signing.

The 27-year-old has helped to transform the Liverpool FC defence into the best in the Premier League after conceding 10 times in 21 games this term.

Van Dijk has been particularly impressive alongside Joe Gomez before Dejan Lovren filled the English defender’s void after his ankle problem.

Liverpool FC managed to win seven successive Premier League games before their 2-1 loss to defending champions Manchester City in the final fixture of the festive schedule.

Asked whether the Netherlands international feels like he needs a rest ahead of the second half of the Premier League season, Van Dijk told Liverpool FC’s website:

“I don’t need to rest. Everyone wants to play every game.

“It’s not like you want to sit on the bench or be in the stand. I just go with it. As long as I’m fit and feel all right then I just keep going and playing.”

Van Dijk has started 21 Premier League games this season and has notched up a staggering 1,855 minutes of top-flight action so far, so you couldn’t blame him for needing a rest.

The Dutchman helped Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League final last season before a 3-1 loss to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Kiev showpiece.
