Virgil van Dijk has urged Liverpool FC to “keep going” in the Premier League title race after a 2-1 loss to Manchester City on Thursday night.

The Reds made the short trip to the defending Premier League champions knowing that a win would leave Liverpool FC an emphatic 10 points clear of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Sergio Aguero broke the deadlock in the first half from a tight angle before Liverpool FC forward Roberto Firmino levelled in the second half at The Etihad.

Germany international Leroy Sane scored a late winner to move Manchester City to within four points of the Premier League leaders to ensure the title race remains competitive.

Liverpool FC will take on Wolves in the FA Cup third round on Monday night before a trip to Brighton in their 22nd Premier League fixture of the 2018-19 season.

Van Dijk was one of Liverpool FC’s outstanding players in their 2-1 loss despite the Reds conceding two goals in a Premier League game for the first time this season.

The Netherlands defender took to Instagram to post a message to Liverpool FC supporters after a disappointing result at The Etihad.

Van Dijk wrote on social media: “Disappointed to suffer our first defeat of the @premierleague this season, but we keep going! 🔝💪”
