The Reds are sitting four points clear at the top of the Premier League table following one defeat in 22 games in an impressive start to the campaign.
Liverpool FC have established a lead at the top of the table after Manchester City lost Chelsea FC, Crystal Palace and Leicester City during December before the Citizens were 2-1 winners against Jurgen Klopp’s men last week.
Spurs had the chance to establish themselves as Liverpool FC’s closest title rivals but squandered the opportunity following a surprise 3-1 loss to Wolves.
However, Tottenham legend Lineker has been impressed with their ability to remain within touching distance of Liverpool FC and Manchester City this term – after they returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-0 win at Cardiff City last week.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “In reality, it’s quite something that @SpursOfficial are on the heels of the Premier League’s finest, given the vast difference in expenditure between them and @LFC and @ManCity. Punchettino.”
Spurs – who host Chelsea FC in the League Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday night – have finished in the top four in the last three Premier League seasons but Mauricio Pochettino’s side have never managed to launch a sustained title challenge.
Tottenham lost 2-1 to Liverpool FC at Wembley earlier this season after a disappointing performance from the Lilywhites.
Spurs have also lost to Manchester City after the defending Premier League champions were 1-0 winners at Wembley.
