Jurgen Klopp replies to talk of Liverpool FC signing FC Barcelona attacker
Jurgen Klopp rejects suggestions that Liverpool FC could re-sign Philippe Coutinho this month
Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on speculation that Liverpool FC could make a move to re-sign Philippe Coutinho from FC Barcelona.
There have been suggestions in the media recently that the Reds could be weighing up a surprise move to bring the playmaker back to Anfield following his lack of playing time at the Camp Nou in recent weeks.
Coutinho – who joined the Spanish side from Liverpool FC this time last year – has only started 10 La Liga games for FC Barcelona this season.
However, Reds boss Klopp has now appeared to rule out any potential move for Liverpool FC to bring the Brazil international back to Merseyside.
Speaking in an interview quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Klopp said when asked about the Coutinho rumours: “That is something I don’t want to talk about. I would not say it is a potential transfer or a likely one.
“Nothing to say. Whatever I say would open more stories and there is no story.
“Phil is at Barcelona and as I know he fits really well and everything is fine.”
Coutinho has scored six goals and made five assists in all competitions for FC Barcelona so far this season.
Liverpool FC are currently top of the Premier League table as they look to try and win their first major trophy under their German manager.
The Reds will host Leicester City in their next Premier League game on Wednesday 30 January as they look to continue their push for the top-flight title this season.
