Paul Merson states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Crystal Palace
The Arsenal legend believes Liverpool FC 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to cement their position at the top of the table with a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds bounced back from their first Premier League loss of the season with a 1-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium last weekend.
Mohamed Salah scored his 14th goal of the Premier League season from the penalty spot at Brighton to protect their four-point lead at the top of the table.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have the chance to move seven points clear of second-placed Manchester City ahead of their trip to Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
Crystal Palace became just the second team to beat the title holders this season when Andros Townsend’s sensational goal helped the Eagles to secure a surprise 3-2 win at The Etihad last month.
Former Arsenal defender Merson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.
“This is a dangerous fixture,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“It could be a problem for Liverpool. Palace have the tools to hurt them. They’ve got major pace and match-winners in Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha.
“They’ve also got an unbelievable manager in Roy Hodgson, who doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He knows how to win these types of games. I think they’ll score.”
Merson added: “However, if Liverpool are serious about winning the league they must win the game. If they do it could also be a psychological advantage over Man City, who lost to Palace.”
Liverpool FC have only conceded 10 times in 22 games in the Premier League this season as summer signing Alisson Becker continues to impress as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
The Reds will take on Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 next month as Klopp’s side look to reach the final in successive seasons.
