Gary Neville raves about Marcus Rashford in new Man United position
The Manchester United legend is excited about Marcus Rashford's potential under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Gary Neville has tipped Marcus Rashford to blossom into “something special” at Manchester United.
The England international has been given a new lease of life since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the reins of the Manchester United side from Jose Mourinho last month.
Rashford was often used on the wing during Mourinho’s two-and-a-half seasons in charge of the 20-time English champions to seemingly stunt the striker’s progress at Old Trafford.
Indeed, the 21-year-old scored eight goals in 18 games under Louis van Gaal to make a sensational start to life as a senior Manchester United player in the 2015-16 season.
However, Rashford never secured a sustained run in the Manchester United team in his preferred position following Mourinho’s appointment as Van Gaal’s successor in May 2016.
The England international has already become a first-team regular under Solskjaer after starting all four of their Premier League games since the Norwegian took over at Old Trafford.
Rashford has netted three times and has made one assist in his last four Premier League appearances to suggest Solskjaer could get the best out of the talented Manchester United forward.
Former Red Devils defender Neville is excited to see Rashford shine up front and backed the Englishman to blossom into a special player at the 20-time English champions.
“Rashford playing up front is fantastic – I love him to bits,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“He’s played nearly 150 games at the age of 21 and his potential is enormous. It’s actually now stepping up beyond potential to where he will be a top-class player. He gives them mobility.
“They needed more energy up front. Romelu Lukaku hasn’t been at his best this season. Rashford has earned his chance up top. He gives them something different and he’s a fantastic player.
“He’s on the right trajectory to become something special for Manchester United.”
Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in their next Premier League game on Sunday 13 January.
