David De Gea has warned Manchester United that their impressive start under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be in vain unless the Red Devils can secure a top-four finish this season.

The 20-time English champions have won six successive Premier League games since the Norwegian manager took over the reins from Jose Mourinho last month.

Solskjaer inherited Manchester United in sixth place and 11 points behind Chelsea FC in the race to secure the final Champions League qualification spot.

Six league wins later, the Red Devils are just three points behind Maurizio Sarri’s side with 15 games to play in the top-flight campaign.

Manchester United secured their place in the FA Cup fifth round on Friday night thanks to a 3-1 victory over Arsenal at The Emirates.

Solskjaer has won eight consecutive games in all competitions to make a perfect start to his reign as Manchester United interim manager.

Burnley will make the trip to Old Trafford on Tuesday night looking to become the first team to beat Solskjaer’s Red Devils team.

De Gea wants Manchester United to protect their winning run to ensure their brilliant form is rewarded with a place in the Champions League at the end of the season.

“It’s clearly a great run of results, but we are still outside of the Champions League places and we’re very far from winning the Premier League,” De Gea told Sky Sports.

“We’re happy with the wins, but we aren’t satisfied with the overall situation.

“This is a club that should be fighting for the title, but we are gaining in confidence, and we are going to try to achieve as much as possible from the rest of the season; winning games, hopefully getting into the Champions League places and doing well in the competition.”

Manchester United will take on PSG in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
